Welcome to the Official Newsletter for Mill Valley Cub Scout Pack 34
Dear Pack 34,
November is a wonderful time of the year. It’s a month of giving thanks. For Pack 34, it’s a month of giving. Check out the Scouting for Food article below for information on this enormous food drive.
We are not just thankful for Scouting and the wonderful place we live. We are also grateful for the Scouts we serve along with the leaders who spend tireless hours giving back. Many leaders state that, although they spent many, many hours in Scouting with their children and the children of others, they wouldn’t trade the experience for anything the world offers.
Its that time of the month to get all the advancement work into the scout book system.
Den leaders, please enter and approve all the work you have completed during the month of October.
Parents, please enter any work you have done with your scout at home. You can use the scoutbook system – click here There is also a new app for the IOS/Android called scouting in the app store. you can log in with your scoutbook login. It’s much easier to use.
Please have advancement in by Friday 11/2
ALL NEW SCOUTS…we will celebrate you’re earning the entry rank of bobcat at the December 5th Pack meeting during the Bobcat Court. Finish off your requirements and make sure to bring your parent(s) to the December meeting. Parents if you want to help your scout out, the Bobcat requirements are here.
Scouting For Food Is Here!
This national food drive by the Boy Scouts of America is one of the largest food drives by a non-profit, certainly in Marin, and maybe even in the country. We participate with all the Bay Area councils at the same time. What a great help to those who are food insecure! It’s also a wonderful opportunity to teach our children how to tangibly give.
Distribution weekend is 11/10, and pickup is 11/17 with delivery to the Food Bank between 10:30 and 2:00.
Please note: the location of the SF-Marin Food Bank has changed. They are now located at 2550 Kerner Blvd., San Rafael.
The Marin Council is looking for a couple of people to help cook hot dogs at the Food Bank for the people bringing the food. The Marin Council will be providing food along with some from the Food Bank. Please contact Tim as soon as possible if you can help. Lunch begins to be served at 11:30.
Email Alex with any questions.
It’s Roundtable Time
Thursday, November 1, Is Roundtable
Unit leaders, don’t forget to send someone from your unit to the roundtable meetings. It’s a great time to meet other leaders, share best practices, and ask questions. Roundtables are the first Thursday of every month (except July and August), starting at 7:30 p.m., 220 N. San Pedro Rd., San Rafael.
We will have a Scouting for Food orientation at 6:45. (See article below.) A member of the SF-Marin Food Bank will be present to talk about food insecurity in Marin County. Don’t miss it!
Cub Scout Roundtable
Fun and fellowship begins at 7:30 p.m. See you there!
Month In Review: OCTOBER – BRAVE
How were we BRAVE this month?
This month saw our Pack 34 scouts flying airplanes in the Young Eagle program. What an incredible program and opportunity for scouts to take to the air with trained pilots and take a turn at the controls…You are BRAVER then me!!
Scouts got out into their neighborhoods selling popcorn door to door. you met new neighbors and learned the “dance of the sale”. Other scouts teamed up to meet our neighbors and our goals at Safeway and learned new skills in team selling.
Pack 34 saw membership grow with many new scouts joining this month. It’s a leap of faith for each boy or girl to decide to join scouts and then come to their first meeting? They may have only known one person and in some cases maybe didn’t know anybody. That sure is some BRAVERY! The good news is they left knowing a pack!
September and October also saw the start of Pack 34’s official transition to Family Scouting. I am so proud of our pack for making the move to the inclusion of girls among our ranks of scouts. It is very BRAVE of our existing member scouts to trust in the program and see this transition through. It is Very BRAVE of our newest female scouts for daring to be the first to participate in this new scouting chapter!!! Well done all! Way to be BRAVE, scouts!
