Welcome to the Official Newsletter for Mill Valley Cub Scout Pack 34
Dear Pack 34,
The Holidays are here! We have a few fun and festive outing planned during the course of December and look forward to seeing you all there with cub scout spirit and holiday cheer. Our December pack meeting is coming up on December 5th. It’s going to be packed with a lot of fun
Finally, this bit of trivia: How do you correctly pronounce Baden-Powell? We typically say BAY-din POW-ell when we refer to the first Chief Scout of the World. Others say pole instead of POW-ell. But Our Founder set us straight with a little poem:
Or at least he thought so! Since you can pronounce that last word no’ll (as in a knoll, small hill) or you can say no-ELL as the Christmas carol The First Noel, further disambiguation is needed. The majority opinion is with the former example, making pole the closest to the true pronunciation. Or you can say POW-ell. I’m sure B-P wouldn’t mind.
A Merry Christmas and festive holiday season from Pack 34 to you, your family and your Scouts.
Month In Review: NOVEMBER – Citizenship & Giving Thanks
This month saw us preparing to give thanks by giving back to our community in the form of canvasing our neighborhoods for canned goods in our annual “Scouting For Food” drive. It turned out to be a much harder job this year due to the heavy smoke conditions from Paradise and the campfire. Thank you all who came out with masks on and helped distribute hangers and then one the worst of the days, came to pick up food. Millvalley sent 5-6 truckloads to the SF-Marin food bank. My son and I alone collected over 20 bags of food.
We talked about emergency preparedness at the November pack meeting. Too soon after that meeting did we learn of the devastating fires to the east. As a way to support our fellow Scouters, we plan on giving to Cub Scout Pack 316 in Paradise CA. We plan on buying $50 gift cards for each scout in 316 to be used towards food or clothes.
In addition to the presentation I gave about being prepared, I followed up with a webpage detailing the various tips I talked about and have included all the documents I collected from the Mill Valley Fire Dept.
I just learned that online sales continue to roll in for popcorn sales. WE HAVE HAD A RECORD BREAKING POPCORN YEAR!!!! To date, we have sold over $16,000 worth of popcorn. Way to go Pack 34.
