Need RSVPs for Blue & Gold Dinner

Hey Pack 34,

The Blue and Gold Dinner is Sat. Feb 4 at 6 PM at the Golf Course Clubhouse.

Right now we need to know how many people plan to attend. All family members are welcome. We'll have a dinner, raffle, cub scout awards, cake contest and more fun.

Please e-mail me back by Friday afternoon with how many family members you are bringing so we can tell the caterer.

Thanks,

Will

Den 007 Meeting - Round Table Pizza 6PM, Wed. Jan 25

Hi Everybody,

Joe asked me to set up a Den 007 meeting at Round Table on Wednesday January 25th at 6PM. Unfortunately the private room is booked up well in advance, so we'll have to snag some tables in the back if we can.

The point of the meeting is to tackle as many Achievements as we can before the Blue & Gold Dinner.

I wasn't able to attend the last one, so I'll focus on the Achievements I signed up for previously: Citizenry, Puppetry, Artist (it's kind of random, I'll admit).

If there are other Achievements cub parents would like to sign up for, that would be great.

Also, it would be good if any of the cubs who want a do-over on their National/Presidential Fitness tests could tackle them before the pizza starts flowing. (That seems to send a mixed message. Ah, well, I don't think Whole Foods would welcome us.)

Be there with your Cub!

Best,

Dave

Pack 34 Rocket Launch

Greetings, Rocketeers!

Pack 34's 2005 Rocket Launch is this Saturday, 21-Jan-05, 8:30AM at Hauke Park (across from the police & fire stations, Hamilton Dr.). This year, the Pack is providing engines, igniters & recovery wadding. If you have extra engines at home, feel free to bring them, as we'll have time for extra flights.

We will use this schedule, yet everyone is welcome to come & watch the whole launch:

  • 8:30 - 9:00: any Scouts with baseball tryouts
  • 9:00 - 9:30: Tigers
  • 9:30 - 10:00: Wolves and Bears
  • 10:00 - 10:30: Webelos

Coffee, hot chocolate & donuts will be provided. Watch the website Friday night & (early) Saturday AM, in case weather forces us to go to next Saturday.

Finally, please note these Top Ten Tips for a successful launch...

  1. Stay Safe: Leaders & parents, keep all Cubs in control & safe. Follow instructions on where to stand!
  2. Dress Warm: Hats and gloves, and waterproof shoes (that grass is wet, & feet get cold!)
  3. Straight Fins: Please double-check that your fins are straight, and strongly glued on.
  4. Launch Lug: Be sure that little "straw" is on straight, strongly glued, and not plugged up with glue.
  5. Nose Cone Fit: Not too tight, so the parachute can come out...should (just) stay in, if you point it to the ground.
  6. Recovery System: Parachute, streamer...whatever you have, be sure to include it.
  7. Know Your Engine: A8-3, B6-4, C6-3, D12-5 or "other"? The directions list your choices, have this info handy.
  8. Check Engine Fit: Make sure the "dummy engine tube" (usually yellow) slides in OK.
  9. ID your Rocket: Include name, phone & email with a Sharpie...if you lose it, someone might find it.
  10. Cool is the Rule: There will be a lot of excitement...thanks in advance for your patience!

Duncan Schmidt and Dave Lundgren

Scouting Event - Alice Eastwood Camp, Mill Valley - January 21 @ 11:30

Chip Patten writes:

Cubmasters, Troop 1 is going to Alice Eastwood Camp ground in Mill Valley and is inviting all the Webelos 1-2 cub- scouts and their parents who would like to attend. We are putting on demonstrations that we believe will be helpful for the boys and their parents when they cross over into boyscouts. How to pack a pack, pitch a tent, select gear and what to expect from the new program are just a few of the items to be discussed.

The cost is free. Come rain or shine January 21 @ 11:30 and we will feed you lunch. Spend the day observing what our troop does on a typical outing and enjoy the great outdoors. You can stay for dinner and even the campfire if you like. Please contact me with a head count so we know how much food to bring. If you would like you can come to our meeting on January 19 and see what we do in preparation to an outing. If your scouts attend these two functions they will satisfy their webelos requirements for attending a meeting and an event. We look forward to meeting all of the boys and their parents. Thanks for your time and efforts in tis matter.
