Memorial Day Parade
May 31
Time: 9:30
Meeting place: in front of Old Mill School
Wear full uniform. You can ride a scooter (preferred uniformity), skate board, and roller blades. Please wear your helmet and protective gear. No bikes, the parade is too slow.
Bring water, sunscreen, and candy to throw. Show your American flags.
Hi Everyone,
I have heard several requests on time to meet and where to meet.
I understand the color guard starts at 8:45 or 9am. I will leave Mill Valley between 8 and 8:15am to make it in time (if you are late, good luck parking...all of Marin's Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts come to this).
Directions. Sorry, I don't have any, but this is what I do. Go thru the toll, turn right at the very first exit. Go under the freeway. Once under the freeway, I turn right the first chance I get. Then I start looking for scout uniforms walking toward the destination. I think we start at the officer club (but not sure if that is what it is called). I find it every year, so, this is close enough.
What to wear: rain boots, uniform, warm over garment.
See you then!
Howdy, Den Leaders-
Duncan and I are pleased to report that our June 4/5/6 Pack Campout is looking great...as of tonight, Duncan's headcount document shows that we've edged past our '03 total (57 campers) with 59 confirmed for Saturday night.
We can probably squeeze in a straggler or two for Saturday night, and Friday night still has plenty of room, but reservations can be considered officially "closed". Thanks for the tenacious & terrific recruiting amongst your Dens.
With a mere 10 days to go before Campout, the attached .pdf file should be shared with the attending families as soon as possible. Hopefully, it will answer all questions about the Campout.
All the best,
Dave Lundgren, Campout Co-Quartermaster
Webelos 1 Den Leader
At the Marin Rod and Gun Club. $5 per fisherkid. Scouts should feel free to bring a friend, great for recruiting.
Last year a lot of us did this, it was a lot of fun!
Editor's note: this picture shows two awesome fishing Wolves (now Bears) practicing up for the big derby!
Thanks, Kerry

Mt Tam Enthusiasts -
Our next program on Mt Tam is this Saturday, MAY 22. Dr. Gordon Squires, of the Spitzer Science Center and California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, will give us a look at the dramatic information that is being gathered by the Spitzer Space Telescope. Launched in August 2003 to observe the sky in the infra-red, this "last of the Great Space Observatories" is greatly changing astronomers view of our universe. The talk "Spitzer First Results", will be in the Mt Theatre at 8:30pm. The Madrone Picnic Area will be available from 7:00pm and, weather permitting, there will viewing in the Rock Spring Parking Lot following the talk with the San Francisco Amateur Astronomers.
June 8, 2004 Venus will transit (cross in front of) the sun, the first time since 1882! But you won't see it if you stay here in the Bay Area. We will have a drawing for a free trip for one to Egypt to view this event at the end of the program. Tickets will be on sale before the program, $5 each or 5 for $20. If you wish to purchase a chance on this once-in-a-life time trip, but can't come to the program, call Tinka @ 415-454-4715. All proceeds will go toward the Astronomy Progams and the Gravity Barn Project of the Mt Tamalpais Interpretive Association.
Looking ahead: Our June and July speakers are switching dates: June 26 will be Dr. Saul Perlmutter on "Supernovae, Dark Energy and the Accelerating Universe"and July 24 will be Dr. Jeff Moore discussing the "New Horizons Pluto-Kuiper Belt Mission".
Please forward or otherwise share this information with anyone potentially interested. Thanks! See you on the Mountain!
It's Scout-O-Rama 2004! Please forward to each of your groups - the kids have a blast! We will do the Jousting again - very popular. I will be doing the set-up in the AM, Israel has committed to the afternoon and teardown. If we could find someone to man the booth from 1:00 to 3:00, we would be most appreciative.
Remember, any Pinewood Derby race winners (first place only) are required to check their cars in at this event to race in the County Fair. Also, anyone who wishes to have their car exhibited at the Fair must also have their cars checked in here.
Thanks,
Duncan
Howdy Den Leaders,
Per discussion with those of you I managed to speak with during Bridging last Wed, it's time to lock headcount for our fast-approaching 4-5-6 June Tamarancho campout. Please engage your Den families (email, voicemail, cellphone, knock on their door, whatever it takes) and define the headcount for your Den like so, replacing the "?" with a number:
| Friday Night, June 4 | ? Adults | ? Kids |
| Saturday Night, June 5 | ? Adults | ? Kids |
By all means use judgement if some families respond with a "maybe" (e.g., 2 kid "maybes" could reasonably = 1 kid for a given night), but we will consider your headcount as a hard number, and commit Pack financial resources based on it.
Please respond by email to Duncan Schmidt (cc me if you'd like) as he has kindly volunteered to compile the results. Duncan and I will consider the headcount locked by next Wed 19-Jun-04 and then roll on tour permit, lifeguard reservations, Tamarancho final fees, food purchase lists and the rest of it.
Cheers,
Dave Lundgren

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for a great night. I think it went well, and better yet, the boys will have a memory of a very fun bridging!
Going forward, just want to make sure each Den leader knows the drill for your den going forward.
Will: Your Wolves will now need to buy Wolf hat, yellow scarf, blue shirt and Wolf book. Additionally, they will earn yellow beads for their acheivements. You can get the details from the book. Contact Tish to order the bead kit.
Kim, Joe and Bill: You now have Bears. Blue Scarf, Bear hat and Bear book. Your guys will now earn Red beads.
Duncan: You are the proud owner of Webelos 1. They can keep their blue shirt or get a tan shirt. Most go tan. Need Webelo hat and scarf. Your boys enter the world of acheivement pins. Pretty different from Bears, so a good reading of the details in the book would be in order.
Dave Lundgren: You know the drill of course, you have the Seniors.
Israel: We should get together soon to go over your stuff for next year.
The next event is the campout, June 4 weekend. We expect a pretty good group, talk it up with your families. I would like this to be the year end meeting.
Thanks again for all of your support. This has been a great year.
Cubmeister
Hi Everyone,
Many of you were involved in the skills clinics we have put on the past couple of years.
This year, we have put together a summer league that allows you to work around your schedule, vacations... You just pick the dates your child could play, we schedule it from there.
There are three age groups: 8-9, 10-11, 12-13. If your child is younger, he or she can play up in age.
Boy league and a girl league. If you want a coed team, that is ok.
It is recommended that you pick your 5 players and come up with your name (crazy, zany names are ok). If your child wants to play, but doesn't have others to add to his/her roster, simply fill out the roster with his/her name and state in the notes, your wishes.
We play on the outdoor courts this summer. If your team plays a minimum of 3 games, you get to play in a tournament in September (in a cool Mill Valley gym, with lights, scoreboard....)
The attached spreadsheet has two tabs. ONe is the registration, FAQ's and the other is the roster sign up and dates for you to mark.
If you know others that you think would like to play, forward this email to them.
Deadline is June 4 for signups.
This is a one of a kind Basketball opportunity, I hope you can be part of it.
Have a great day!
P.S.: There will be a lot of the Mt. Carmel coaches involved, so if your child is planning on playing CYO next year, this is a good opportunity to meet these coaches.
Here is a preview of coming attractions. All of this information is posted in the calendar as well.

Pack Meeting: All scouts should have met their achievements for advancement. All scouts should wear uniform hat, scarf and shirt. And swimming trunks. Meeting will start promptly at 7:15 and end at 8:15pm. No food to be served.
Placing Flags on Graves: This is alway a great turn out. Dress warm, wear boots if you have them. Each scout gets a great patch to remember this public service.
Scout-o-Rama: The Marin Boy Scout Web site has more information. Duncan to send out info as we get closer. Scouts to wear uniform. If you won a Pinewood Derby trophy this year, you will be in the County race, so bring your car to check in at Scout-o-Rama. If you don't check it in, you won't be able to race in the County. All scouts, are encouraged to bring your pinewood car(s) to Scout-o-Rama for the Marin County Fair exhibition. They all win ribbons and it is fun for the boys to see their car on display.
